Description

The Kali Gandaki A Hydropower Project is a significant energy initiative located on the Kaligandaki River in Syangja, Mirmi, Nepal. Developed by the Chinese Water Conservation Electric Power Foreign Company, this project represents a major advancement in the region’s electrical infrastructure. With a contract value of USD 89.2 million, funded by the Overseas Economic Cooperation Fund of Japan, it aims to provide sustainable energy solutions.

Commissioned in 2002, the Kali Gandaki A Hydropower Station was the largest hydroelectric facility in Nepal until 2008. Utilizing a “daily pondage” operational method, the station harnesses the power of water with a net head of 115m, delivering an impressive annual energy output of 842 GWh. The project features three Francis turbines with an installed capacity of 48 MW each, significantly reducing load shedding from 12-16 hours to just 1 hour during winter months.
