CRCHI’s Double Shield Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) are engineered for rapid and secure tunneling in both stable and unstable rock formations. These innovative machines combine the capabilities of open-type gripper TBMs and single shield TBMs, allowing for simultaneous segment installation and excavation in stable geological conditions. This dual functionality results in significantly faster tunneling speeds, making them ideal for constructing long tunnels in hard rock scenarios.
The Double Shield TBM features a sophisticated design comprising three main components: a front shield with a cutterhead, a telescopic shield, and a gripper shield equipped with gripper shoes and auxiliary thrust cylinders. The cutterhead, fitted with optimally arranged disc cutters, efficiently breaks rock at the tunnel face, while the machine’s gripper shoes extend to press against the tunnel sidewalls during excavation. In challenging geological zones, the telescopic shield retracts to merge with the front shield, allowing the TBM to advance using auxiliary thrust cylinders against the segment ring.
